Learning is a continuous process that never ends. Our approach to learning in life, especially in our professional lives, is essential to our development.
In a VC Firm, you get an opportunity to learn new skills in all areas and apply those skill sets in real-life situations, which is basically, vertical to horizontal growth patterns you develop.
Let’s understand this using computer-based analogy.
- vertical development — enhances the speed and power of your processor ,
- horizontal development — expands the size of your mental hard drive.
Having both improves your ability to utilize and assess the data you have saved on your hard drive and improves your ability to deal with any sudden, unplanned changes in your working environment.
I joined Auxano with a Job Description to manage the finance & regulatory compliance. As my Key Responsibilities, I was to undertake compliance while onboarding the LPs and reporting to SEBI and Trustees.
During the journey, I got exposure to learn and understand beyond my Key Responsibility Areas and explored the process and approach adopted by the team at different stages of the investment process. I experienced alongside the team:
- The sell side of fund
- Ongoing Investor relations and Query Handling
- Analyzing the startups to Due Diligence to Legal documentation
Getting through the routine work, following are the best part of learning, which helped me to grow professionally & personally:
- Network is Net-worth :
Tim Sanders’ popular quote reads: “Networking is your net worth”.
CA by qualification, I have the understanding of applying formulas to determine the net value of any entity. However, for an individual, the depth of the network is their net worth.
2. Never Assume, Always Ask :
Assuming means — accept without verification or evidence.
Asking questions always makes life easier including learning new things, getting to the peers in the conversation and of course, getting clarification to prevent erroneous assumptions.
3. Work agenda
Knowing your daily activities to plan for the next day before leaving the workplace, will help you to avoid distractions and to prioritize what’s important. This way it helps, to avoid the procrastination of deliverables and get the things done on time
4. Take ownership
At work, taking ownership requires being proactive and realizing how your responsibilities contribute to the achievement of overall business objectives.
“Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” — Albert Einstein
Therefore, In order to excel at any skill, one needs to push themselves out of their comfort zone and practice things they aren’t good at, to start with.
In Auxano, we are always encouraged to sharpen our skills and transform into a better personality.
