In early 19th century, clay tablet inscriptions from the Mesopotamian era, dating back to 3200 BCE were discovered, which are now credited as one of the earliest writing systems.
At the time it was estimated that to inscribe a 500-word inscription into clay (excluding drying time) would take at least 2–3 hours, which was significantly higher than the time it took to write 500 words using a typewriter (~25–30 minutes)
Fast forward to today, and in the time it takes to read an article of 500 words, AI tools such as ChatGPT can write 3 such articles (3 minutes on average for reading vs 1 minute for writing), indicating the exponential development in writing technologies akin to Moore’s Law (which states that computer chips would roughly double in processing power every 2 years).
Refer the diagram below for the development of writing technologies across ages.
As mentioned before, with the advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), writing has now become easier than ever, but the large selection of tools out there makes it difficult to keep track and assess which tools are actually useful.
One way of classification is based on the type of utility the product provides e.g.
● All in one creativity tools (think Claude, ChatGPT),
● Creative Writing (Rytr),
● Grammar & Plagiarism Checkers (Grammarly) and
● SEO/Marketing Copywriting (Growthbar)

For every piece of content — be it books, songs or movies, the core narrative or story is what helps differentiate it from others and makes it memorable. In the case of movies, inputs from a team of screenwriters, supervisors and editors helps in bringing the vision from words to screen.
Bollywood alone produces 1,000 films annually, serving 3 billion global viewers. With OTT platforms (700 Mn+ users) transforming content consumption, the need for curated content is rising, creating opportunities for innovation in both creation and distribution.
One such solution is Ved — an AI tool developed by Mugafi (Auxano portfolio company) for idea enhancement and creation of not just scripts but also novel, comic, screenplays across genres like sci-fi, fiction, romance, action and many more at a click of a button
But writing a screenplay is just one part of the journey towards monetization — this is where Mugafi provides a dedicated platform for writers to license and sell their IPs and for production houses to recruit talented writers and enhance their existing IPs.
VC Lens
Writing is one of the core Mediums through which Auxano aims to present differentiated insights, covering a range of topics such as
- the technologies that make up the India Stack,
- investor rights and how to best leverage them,
- guidelines for AIFs to ensure compliance with all regulations
- And even how Star Wars can teach us about disruptive technologies
Auxano Knowledge Series: Inside Venture Capital is a compilation of all the blogs shared by Auxano for the year (read the 2023 edition here)
Each piece (including the one you are reading) is created in-house, primarily relying on firsthand experiences, simplifying complex terms and concepts so that even a 10-year-old can grasp them. The core tenets for Auxano’s writing process are as follows:
Several tools are used for researching the topics covered in each piece and are also actively utilized for better phrasing and finding insights from large data (case in point the timeline of major writing technologies above was created with inputs from Claude)
Balancing Authenticity and Efficiency
While authenticity and quality is important, embracing technology can not only improve the quality of output but also efficiency, though it is important to have human oversight to not dilute the message.
Following a structured process can enhance content scalability and ensure consistency. From a startup’s perspective, tech integration allows the team (especially at the early stages) to create content efficiently.
