Beyond Compliance: Investor Communication Strengthens Transparency and Trust

In India’s growing Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) ecosystem, transparency and continuous investor communication have become central to building lasting confidence. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has, over time, strengthened the disclosure framework to ensure investors are regularly informed about their fund’s

  • performance,
  • governance, and
  • portfolio updates.

Under SEBI’s AIF Regulations, every AIF must share an annual report with its investors within 180 days of the financial year-end.

While this regulatory requirement ensures a minimum level of transparency, at Auxano, we believe that effective communication is not limited to compliance — it is about building trust through ongoing dialogue.

SEBI’s Mandate — The Foundation for Transparency

SEBI’s framework ensures that investors receive at least one detailed communication each year, covering:

  • Financial information of investee companies,
  • Material risks and how they are managed,
  • Risk and compliance disclosures.

This 180-day disclosure rule creates a transparent baseline for investor relations across the AIF industry.

While mandate for this requirement once annually, Auxano has built a practice of regular communication with investor on quarterly basis— to keep them informed not only about the fund’s numbers but also about the journeys behind those numbers.

It is about  managing the relationship with investor from onboarding (initial talk by exchanging PPM and KYC documents) in funds, capital calls, annual reports to the investment exits happen and beyond that…

Auxano’s Approach — Communication Beyond Compliance

We view investors as long-term partners in building value, not just capital contributors. Their confidence is shaped by clarity, consistency, and the ability to see progress in real time.

  • Quarterly Portfolio Updates

Each quarter, Auxano shares a business update and growth matrix of each portfolio investment, with all investors.
These updates don’t just highlight financial performance — they tell the story of progress, challenges, and learnings across our portfolio companies.

Our quarterly communication covers:

  • Business and operational performance of portfolio companies,
  • Key developments, partnerships, or funding milestones,
  • Market trends influencing our investment strategy, and
  • A brief commentary on upcoming focus areas.

This level of regular insight helps investors stay connected to the fund’s activity cycle and understand how strategies are being implemented across the portfolio.

  • Regular Portfolio Review Calls

Auxano also maintains a structured review on monthly and quarterly calls with each portfolio company.
These are not just review meetings — they are collaborative discussions focusing on:

  • Growth strategy and business model validation,
  • Financial health and cash management,
  • Governance and internal controls,
  • Team and operational efficiency, and
  • Future funding or exit readiness.

These consistent touchpoints keep both founders and the fund accountable and aligned, while enabling us to share real-time insights with investors in our quarterly communication.

  • Annual Investor Meet — Bringing the Ecosystem Together

Beyond written updates and reports, Auxano hosts an Annual Investor Meet — a forum that goes well beyond a compliance presentation.

This event brings together our investors, portfolio founders, and leading industry experts to discuss ecosystem progress, emerging sectoral trends, and the overall investment landscape.

The annual meet serves broad purposes:

  • It allows investors to hear directly from the founders about their progress and upcoming plans.
  • It provides deeper insights into the market environment from industry voices.
  • Networking and collaboration opportunities within portfolio companies.
  • And most importantly, it creates a space for in-person dialogue — strengthening the trust and understanding that numbers alone cannot convey.

This personal interaction helps investors see the fund’s philosophy in action, reinforcing confidence that their capital is being managed with discipline, transparency, and vision.

Such initiatives have helped us build relationships based on mutual belief in the ecosystem — where investors not only review results but also participate in shaping the larger growth story.

Making Transparency a Culture, Not a Checklist

For us, transparency is not a checkbox under SEBI regulations — it’s a reflection of how we conduct business.

Before any investment transactions as approved by investment committee (IC) take placed, regardless of transaction in size, a detailed investment note is shared across all the investors about proposed investee company detailing –

  • company profile,
  • business and revenue model
  • founder pedagogy & key team members
  • Competitor landscape
  • Current valuation and exit opportunities (to build the wealth)

Investors gain a richer understanding of portfolio dynamics and strategic actions we are taking on the ground, helping them see the “why” behind the numbers —

  • the reasoning,
  • the decisions, and
  • the operational realities that shape outcomes.

By maintaining continuous communication, we ensure that our investors remain informed, engaged, and confident throughout the fund’s lifecycle.

Conclusion

“Communication is the key to successful relationships.” — Jeanne Phillips

Communication is no longer about announcements, but true transparency lies in how consistently and meaningfully a fund engages its investors beyond what’s required.

At Auxano, we have built our investor communication framework around that very principle — from quarterly portfolio updates and regular founder reviews to our Annual Investor Meet that connects capital with conviction. We also share our perspectives through weekly blogs, reflecting our thought process and continuous engagement with the ecosystem.

This approach not only strengthens investor confidence but also reinforces our commitment to build a stronger, more transparent, and collaborative venture ecosystem.
